NLUJ admit · AILET rank 89
Zoya Khan

“My mocks had a plateau I couldn't shake. The 1:1 mentor pushed me off it in three weeks — not by teaching more content, by changing how I read the passage.”

The plateau
Zoya came in at mock rank ~8,000 and stayed there, stubbornly, for twelve weeks. She was studying nine hours a day. The issue wasn't effort.
Her assigned mentor spent a full session just watching her read a passage — on screen-share — and the problem showed up immediately. She was sub-vocalising every sentence.
The fix
Three weeks of deliberate silent-reading drills with graded passages. Two weeks of principle-fact drills at half the timer. Then a controlled return to full-length mocks.
Her rank moved from ~8,000 to ~1,200 in six weeks. It's not the usual rate — but it's what happens when the block is mechanical, not substantive.
Now
NLUJ first-year. She's joined the college's moot society.
Other outcomes worth reading.
“I'd been self-studying for eighteen months. The first real unlock was the error-log — seeing that 40% of my losses were in two topic clusters I hadn't even noticed.”
“The Mains answer-writing loop was the part that changed me. Three evaluated answers a week, returned within 48 hours — you watch your own prose sharpen over forty weeks.”
“We went into diligence expecting to spend three weeks cleaning up. The lead investor's counsel asked one follow-up and moved on. That's the bar we wrote the pack to.”
